Program Overview

Field School Dates: April 27 - May 12, 2023 (tentative)

Learn how to do business in Greater China. You will meet senior business executives and academics with the aim of learning how to develop the Taiwan and Mainland China markets for Canadian business. You will also enjoy cultural excursion, good food, night markets, KTVs, and Taipei nightlife.

Application Procedure

Deadline to Apply: December 15, 2022

Interested students will submit an Expression of Interest to Darren Paproski, Darren.Paproski@viu.ca

Notification of admission will be approximately one week after the application deadline.

Expression of Interest

International and domestic VIU students. Must be 3rd year standing unless exemption is given by Marketing Department Chair.  Pre-requisites are waived.  

Field school fees include: 

  • Shared accommodation
  • Most program related travel
  • Program activity costs
  • Four group meals
  • Excursions
  • Meeting venue rentals
  • Speaker fees

Expenses not included in field school fees:

  • Tuition
  • Return airfare to and from the field school
  • Passport/Visa expenses
  • Most meals
  • Guard.Me travel medical insurance
  • Vaccinations, if required
  • Miscellaneous entry fees
  • Personal expenses

All payments must be made by the student record. Credit cards are not accepted. 

Field School Itinerary

Passports

All participants must have a valid passport good for six months after your return. Applications for Canadian passports are available at Canada Post offices or online. Students must be able to legally travel outside of Canada and through/to the USA.

Visas

Canadian passport holders do not require a visa for short-term travel to Taiwan.

International students going abroad must make sure their TRV and Study Permits are up-to-date and won't expire while they are abroad.

Students will be responsible for applying for and securing their own visas (where appropriate).
